The short version: Caliper is built privacy-first. The app does not collect your data or documents — everything you open, mark up, and measure stays on your computer (macOS or Windows). We run no servers that receive your files, we have no user accounts, and the app contains no advertising or third-party tracking. The one exception is license activation: if you buy Caliper directly from us rather than through the Mac App Store, the app contacts our licensing provider to validate your license key, as explained in Section 3.

1. Who we are

Caliper (the “app”) is developed and published by Caliper App LLC (“we,” “us,” “our”), a Colorado limited liability company. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in connection with the Caliper application and this website (the “Site”). Questions? Email support@caliperapp.co.

2. Information the app does not collect

When you use Caliper, your PDFs, annotations, measurements, scale calibrations, and custom stamps are stored locally on your device and in storage you control. We do not transmit, receive, or store any of this content. Caliper performs all document processing on your computer (macOS or Windows).

3. Purchases, licensing & activation

Caliper is sold two ways, and what is processed depends on where you got it:

Mac App Store: Apple processes the transaction and your payment, and we never receive your name, address, or payment details. Apple gives us only aggregate, anonymized statistics through App Store Connect (download counts, territories, version adoption) that do not identify you, plus — if you opt in via macOS settings — anonymized crash logs.
Direct purchase (caliperapp.co): payment is handled by our reseller and Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy (Lemon Squeezy, Inc.), which collects the billing details needed to complete your order and remit taxes, under its own privacy policy. We receive a record of the sale and your license details (such as the purchaser email and license key) to provide support and manage your license; we do not receive full payment-card numbers.
License activation: when you activate or validate a license on a direct (non–App Store) copy, the app contacts Lemon Squeezy’s licensing service and sends your license key together with a non-identifying, hardware-derived device identifier — solely to confirm the license and enforce the single-device limit. This is used only for license validation, never for tracking, profiling, or advertising, and no documents, measurements, or file contents are ever transmitted.

Your use of the App Store is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy; direct purchases are also subject to Lemon Squeezy’s Privacy Policy.

4. No telemetry in the app

Other than the license validation described in Section 3, Caliper includes no analytics, telemetry, or other “phone-home” behavior, and no third-party advertising or tracking SDKs. On-device features such as Auto-Scale OCR run entirely on your computer using the platform’s on-device vision/OCR capabilities; no image or document data is sent anywhere.

5. This website

Our Site uses privacy-friendly, self-hosted analytics to understand aggregate traffic — such as page views, approximate location (country, region, and city), referring sites, device type (desktop, tablet, or phone), which download and buy buttons are clicked, and whether a checkout was opened. This analytics uses no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and does not record your IP address or track you across other websites; visitors are counted using a rotating, one-way anonymized identifier that cannot be traced back to you. Approximate location is derived using GeoLite2 data created by MaxMind (maxmind.com).

Campaign links and purchases. Some links to our Site, including links in our ads, carry campaign tags that identify which campaign and ad brought you here. Our analytics records those tags with your visit. If you then buy Caliper using a Buy button on this Site, the tags, your device type, and the page you bought from are passed to Lemon Squeezy with your order, and Lemon Squeezy returns them to us with its order notification. We keep them alongside the order number, product, amount, and status so we can see which campaigns lead to purchases. We do not store your name, email address, or license key with these records, and none of this uses cookies or stores anything on your device.

This measurement covers the website only — the Caliper app itself contains no analytics or telemetry (see Section 4). Separately, our hosting provider may automatically log standard technical data (such as IP address and browser type) for security and operation, as is typical of web servers. The Site does not use tracking or advertising cookies.

6. Children’s privacy

Caliper is a professional tool intended for business use and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Your privacy rights

Apart from the limited license and purchase records described in Section 3 (such as a purchaser email and license key for direct sales), we do not collect personal information through the app, so there is generally little or no personal data for us to access, correct, or delete. If you are in a jurisdiction with privacy rights — such as the EEA or UK under the GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA — and you believe we hold information about you, contact us at support@caliperapp.co and we will respond as required by law. We do not sell or share personal information.

8. International users

Caliper App LLC is based in the United States. Because the app processes your content locally on your device, that content is not transferred to us. License-validation data for direct purchases (your license key and a device identifier) is handled by Lemon Squeezy and may be processed in the United States or other countries. The Site is operated from the United States.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above and, where appropriate, noted on the Site.
